The Galaxy Alliance's home planets have been overpopulated, so a fleet of explorers has been sent to look for new planets to colonize. Along the way, they attract the attention of the evil Drule, who attempt to thwart their plans. Since the Voltron of Planet Arus was too far away to help, a new Voltron is constructed to battle the Drule threat. This Voltron team consisted of 15 members and was divided into three groups of five, known respectively as the Land, Sea and Air Teams. Each team was focused in gathering data or fighting in their area of expertise. When necessary, all 15 vehicles combine to form the mighty Voltron, Defender of the Universe.
The Land Team is made up of Cliff, Marvin, Hutch, Cinda, and Modoch. Cliff is the leader of the Land Team and has a wry sense of humor. Marvin serves as the jokester and is good friends with Hutch. They are often seen together, either playing cards or brawling with each other. Hutch can often be found looking for a good fight. Cinda is kind and compassionate, especially when it comes to nature. She is from the same water planet as Cric from the Sea Team. Modoch is the largest member of the team who can be described as a "gentle giant".
The Air Team is made up of Jeff, Rocky, Chip, Wolo, and Ginger. The hot-headed Jeff leads the team, while Rocky acts as the muscles. Chip is the brainy member and happens to be the twin brother of Pidge, of Lion Force Voltron. Ginger is the only female member of the team and fights for a worthy cause ever since she witnessed her family's death in a ship explosion.
The Sea Team is made up of Cric, Shannon, Lisa, Tangor and Zandee. Cric comes from an unnamed water planet and is [censored] the leader of the Sea Team. Speaking with an alien accent, he has clairvoyant abilities that help to warn him of impending danger. Lisa is kind, sympathetic and very educated in ancient cultures. Shannon is the Iris-accented member of the team who fights for a worthy cause, as his brother is a prisoner of the Drule Empire. Tangor and Zandee are members of the Vehicle Voltron Force who where usually treated as background characters that never had much to say.
